【Update CNC 3018PRO-N】The two sides of the Y-axis of the engraving machine are replaced with orange bakelite resin boards, which makes the engraving machine look brighter and more novel. The fixed external frame is made of resin, the work stable is made of aluminum alloy, and the screw rod is made of stainless steel, all of those makes the machine lightweight but more durable, more good apperance.
【Detailed installation and operating instructions】With the English instruction manual from the engraving machine installation to engraving, there are detailed instructions for the X-axis-Y-axis-Z-axis to the overall assembly of the engraving machine, and each installation step parts which is needed has been remarked; With detailed assembly and use videos, even novices don't have to worry about the assembly and use of the machine.
【Added new function】 Added an emergency stop button, during the engraving process, if the user encounters an emergency and needs to stop the engraving immediately, user can press the button to stop the operation. Added X/Y/Z axis limit switch, when the engraving machine moves up and down or left and right, it will stop immediately if it exceeds the forming range.
【GRBL Control Board and Offline Controller】 ①The GRBL board supports emergency stop and X/Y/Z axis limit functions, which can be used together with the emergency stop button and limit switch on the engraving machine to ensure a safe and simple working environment.② Other functions and features: maximum support for 2000RPM spindle, 0.5W-20W lassr module, tool setting(probe) , a power switch button and a silent fan cooling. And equipped with a CNC GRBL offline controller.
【Supported engraving materials】Wood, plastic, acrylic, pvc, pcb, carbon fiber, density board, plastic phone cases, rubber stamps, copper , aluminum and other soft materials. It should be noted that materials such as jewelry, jade, stainless steel, stone, ceramics and other similar materials are not supported.
This kit was manufactured very well and packaged very well. A user manual came with the machine. It is better than most other translated manuals but it still leaves room for improvement. There are a lot of 3018 cnc resources on the internet. My kit came with the little hand held controller, the newer upgraded control board, a laser module, the spindle of course, the Bakelite uprights and end caps, a tiny e stop switch, and limit switches for homing. I’m not a big fan of Bakelite but it works.I got it assembled and wired up and powered it up. I have a couple of 3d printers already so the x y z concept wasn’t new to me. X is left and right. Y is forward and back. Z is up and down. One thing that threw me for a loop was when I pressed the Y- button to move the table forward, it went backwards. Well I was looking at it the wrong way. Technically I am moving the table but in the program I am moving the laser head. That really screwed me up for a day or so before I realized that.I haven’t actually used the router, the spindle yet. I have been focusing on the laser. I have this little machine in my home office sitting on my desk. This isn’t the best place to have wood and aluminum chips flying. The laser is fine in here but when I get around to trying wood routing then I might take it to my garage and sit it over a trash can. I have also read about people sitting these in a plastic container, I think it would have to be 18X18 or 18X16, somewhere in there. I have also read where people don’t think too much of the router bits that come in the kit so I might buy some before I try routing.I screwed up my $ settings and I was making mirror images of what I was trying to make. So I reset it back to factory stock $RST*, then in the manual it says to enter $21=1, $22=1, and $23=3. For me $23=3 inverted my x and y axes so when I tried to home it, it went to the wrong corner and crashed. I entered $23=0 and it is correct again. When I home it, the table will move towards me and the laser moves to the right, where the limit switches are mounted. So home puts the laser at the right rear corner away from me. I think that is a general cnc thing. The whole homing thing with the limit switches was a complete waste of time for me. After it homes, I can’t move it. So after all that with the limit switches and getting the home direction correct, I won’t even use it.Search the internet for grbl $ commands. You will find everything. There is a lot of stuff on the internet for 3018 cnc routers. I downloaded and 3d printed some better table clamps with tee nuts. You can even turn this little 30X18 machine into a 30X40 machine. That of course is one of my reasons for having this hobby. Being a tinkerer at heart I just can’t leave well enough alone! At the bottom of LaserGRBL there are a bunch of buttons. Starting from the left, there are navigation buttons with a house in the middle. This home button will home the laser to your zero point. This one is good to use. You have to hold it like the arrow buttons. Then there is a lighting bolt. This will reset the 3018. Next is the dreaded machine home button. I won’t ever press it again. Next is the unlock button. Next is the zero point button. Get your laser to the front left corner of your work then hit this button to establish your zero point. Next are the center and corner buttons. These will move the laser to the center or front left corner of your work. Next is a frame button. You can draw a frame around your work, Next is Focus. This will turn the laser on so you can focus it. Next is Blink. This will pulse the laser for a split second so you can see where it is on your work. Then the resume and wait buttons are in the lower right hand corner. After you set the zero point in LaserGRBL then you won’t be able to move the laser head to the left or towards you past the zero point. From the zero point you can only move the laser forward (away from you) and to the right. So in order to get the full 30X18 bed area you would need to position the laser head to the front left corner of the bed then establish your zero point there.I have developed a routine. I power on the 3018. I move the bed forward to me then set up my work piece. I keep a piece of scrap wood under the work piece. I check the height of my work and set the laser to 50mm’s. Then I position the laser to the left side corner closest to me where I want it to start burning. I plug in the usb cable and start laser grbl on my pc. Check and set my zero point, import my file and set the perimeters and start burning. This review turned into more of a how to but for my review I will give it an enthusiastic 5 stars! If you are a tinkerer and on the fence about this router then I say go ahead and take the plunge. This kit is very well made and there are a ton of options and you won’t be disappointed. If it was easy and handed to us then it wouldn’t be fun right. We need a little challenge to figure out, that’s part of the fun.TWO WEEKS LATERI finally tried the router function, the spindle. Haha I was thinking about my father’s router 40 years ago throwing chips. This little cnc machine is tiny. It doesn’t throw chips. It makes a little pile of dust. I tried one of the bits that came with it. And I tried some aftermarket bits too. And I don’t have to sit it on a trash can. :) The spindle is quite a bit louder than the laser though. And I have to clamp my work piece a lot better too. So far I have routed some wood and some Plexiglas. So far so good.I thought that it was a little weird that they included limit switches for homing, but only for the X+, Y-, and Z+ limits. I might add the 3 missing switches to X-. Y+, and Z-. I keep running the bed into Y+ so if a switch was there it might save the brass nut on the acme threaded rod.
