On July 15th, 1942, a squadron of two B-17 bombers and six P-38 fighters bound for Iceland crash-landed in Greenland after getting lost in a blizzard. The crews were rescued, but the planes remained, eventually entering aviation lore as the "Lost Squadron." In 1981, two adventurers from Atlanta set out not just to find these planes, but to restore them to their former glory. TIME MACHINE reveals how the first part of their quest--which they thought would be relatively simple--took eight years, and ended with the discovery that the planes were encased in ice, 250 feet below the surface of a glacier. I remember hearing on the news when they found these places back in the 1980s. I've always loved warbirds so I got this dvd. I've read the book on the subject and have followed the story for years but it was nice to get to see actual footage of the recovery of the P-38 from the ice. If you love warbirds you will love this video. I thought they did a very good job showing everyone's point of view since the recovery and final ownership ended up in a big dispute. Regardless in the end you get to see the P-38 all restored and make it's maiden flight back into the sky. Over all a great film worth 5 stars.
